Professional and Educational Design: Teaching the next generation about Theatrical Design.
Janie Alexander (Designer & Arts Educator) holds a BA in Theater Design and Production from The University of Northern Iowa.
Over the past 15+ years Janie has served as: Production Coordinator for Yale Opera, Technical Director for The International Festival of Arts and Ideas, Master Electrician at Westport Country Playhouse and Assistant Stage Operations Manager at Glimmerglass Opera. She has also held various technical positions at Yale Repertory Theater, Goodspeed Opera, Long Wharf Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and Nebraska Theatre Caravan.
Janie was recently the production designer for THE WIZ, HAIRSPRAY, SISTER ACT, RENT, IN THE HEIGHTS, and HEATHERS THE MUSICAL along with running performances for the Music, Dance, Writing, and Theater Departments for Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School in New Haven, CT. Along with past performances for A Broken Umbrella Theatre: Exchange, Made of New Haven, SEEN Change, GILBERT the GREAT, The Library Project, and Head Over Wheels.
Currently, Janie is the Production and Technical Education Manager at Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School via the Shubert Theater. She also acts as Technical Supervisor for Shubert/CAPA Corporate Events. She works primarily within Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School. Where she supervises technical training for Shubert/CAPA Apprentices, the Shubert Usher Intern Training Program, and teaches independent study students in senior design and portfolio production and running TECH CREW. Along with teaching and creating production work for the Shubert Summer Theater & Arts Camp. This year Janie has created several virtual learning programs for children ages 2-14 for the Shubert Theater's Distance learning Program ShubertCamp@Home, along with revamping the Shubert Camp's virtual learning Program.
